Step 5:
The wax model, with its gates/sprues and cup, is dipped into liquid cement. Very fine grain sand is then applied and the sand adheres to the wet cement. Once the first coat of cement and sand are dry, a second coat is applied in the same manner. A total of 6 to 12 coats are applied forming a ceramic shell around the entire wax model, including the sprues and cup.
